Blog post for school

Hello! My name is Madeleine and I am currently living in Avila and working at Jorge Santayana as an English teaching assistant.

I am from New Zealand, and I grew up in a small town called Ashburton, where I lived with my mother, Niki, father, Rennie, and brother, Lachie, and our pets, a dog named Lowca and three cats called Peaches, Ron and Whiskey.

I decided to come to Spain because I finished university and I didn’t know what job I wanted, so I decided travelling around Europe and teaching English seemed like a good way to decide.

In New Zealand it is the middle of summer, so arriving in Avila to snow on the ground and freezing cold weather was a big shock.

Another thing I was surprised by is driving because in New Zealand we drive on the other side of the road, so I get very confused on the Spanish roads.

I am living in Spain for 6 months and I am looking forward to eating lots of Spanish food and exploring this beautiful country. My favorite Spanish food (so far) is Potato tortilla, and my favorite city that I have visited is San Sebastian.

I really enjoy living in Avila, it has a lot of interesting history and the wall and the churches are so beautiful. The people in Avila are so kind; everyone has been very friendly and helpful. I love living in this gorgeous city and working in such a fun and welcoming school! Come and say hi if you see me around!
